08.07.2010 5 more juvenile Imperial Eagles were tagged with satellite transmitters Five juvenile Imperial Eagles, aged about two months were tagged with satellite transmitters. Thanks to the state-of-the-art technology BSPB experts will know where the birds are and what happens to them. The transmitter tagging is carried out within the LIFE+ project „Save the raptors”, funded by the EU.
The five birds were hatched in the mountains of Sakar and Western Strandja. They have their own names - Buria, Stancho, Darik the Second, Drago and Liubo – that were given to them by their symbolic adopters from bTV, Standard daily, Darik radio, Dir.bg and BulPhoto.
Transmitters were tagged within three days by BSPB experts in cooperation with partners from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Hungarian Ornithological Society and Greek experts.

Last year BSPB put satellite transmitters on seven other juvenile Imperial Eagles. Thus the telemetry data will be more representative and detailed. Two of the eagles with transmitters are still alive and currently are in Bulgaria. The remaining birds died by electrocution, poisoning and shot by the poacher.
